Part of Theaterlab’s Homecoming Season 2018:
“Our work seeks to find strength inside of softened, abled bodies. Not For Picking investigates how societal expectations and limitations influence our bodies’ reactions to the space and world around us. We explore the physicality and sensation of working through the defensive self, in order to better understand our continuous cultivation of power.”
Not For Picking is a re-mount of Mary Grace McNally’s first full evening length production. In August 2018, an excerpt from this production earned her the prestigious Capezio A.C.E. Award. In 2016, she was announced as ADA’s National Choreographer of the Year. Over the last five years, her work has been presented at Dixon Place, Dance Gallery Festival, Centre National de la Danse in France, deSingel in Belgium, Young Choreographer’s Festival, NewStepsSeries at Chen Dance Center, Performance Garage in Philadelphia, and Peridance Capezio Center. She has studied with artists such as Medhi Walerski, Adi Salant, Jiri Pokorny, Tilman O’Donnell, and has performed the works of Doug Varone, Netta Yerushalmy, Tommie-Waheed Evans, Katie Swords-Thurman and Emma Portner. Mary Grace is based in New York City, working as a dancer, teacher and choreographer, as well as a company member of Erica Sobol’s LOBOS Art Collective.
