Távolság represents a collaboration of 5 years, across 8 countries, to show “how distance and longing can empower our true feelings”. Because without distance, we can never know the true meaning of love.
Távolság (spelled: Tavolshag, is a Hungarian word means Distance). The amount of work which was done in this project is priceless, through it the set of skills and talent of these artists who worked on it. This project wasn’t about the level of details to the 3D models, the textures or environment, as much it was about the feelings which was presented by these characters.
Syntax CGI team, with the association of Chaosgroup, DigicPictures,Ephere Ornatrix, Mocap.Gmaes and Autodesk conceived and coordinated the creative technical input and output to this unprecedented collaboration to deliver a beautiful piece of art. At Digic Pictures the set of Motion Capture data was completed in accordance with a real dancer’s performance to form the basis for the later animations, so the virtual movement of these dancers are a perfect match of the real thing.
Syntax CGI & Mocap.Games had the sophisticated task of transforming the CGI data into photo realistic animations. The experience gained by Michal Hrydziuszko and Marek Tatar is now successfully put to effective use. Meanwhile, extensive simulation work simulated by Artur Malczyk, after all, the aim was to create an artistic yet emotional and realistic feeling to this performance. Every movement is predetermined by so called animatics of several hundred hours’ worth of calculations. The results was something to be proud of.
The so-called rendering time of such a sophisticated animation plays between fifteen minutes and half hour per individual frame, which was provided by Sven Pfiffer at Render4You Company. A total of nearly two thousand hours were needed for this animated film to be done. Finally, the compositing stage with Slawomir Malinowski & Mohammad Malak; brings everything together that belongs together. 5 minutes of fascinating animation, what was in the beginning a Motion Capture data and wireframe is now transformed into a complete work of art, with nearly 5 years of production time from planning to completion and lots of fun as well madness in the process.
