In 2011, Amy was Artist in Residence at Velocity Dance Center in Seattle. Part of her proposal for her year long residency was to bring Kathleen and Albert to teach master classes in the community, create a piece together in a few days, and have both Amy and Kathleen perform solos. What Goes Around Comes Around is the result of Amy, Kathleen, and Albert in the studio together during that week. What results is a raw playful reflection on the past, celebration of the present, merging of the artists personalities and creative modatlities, and an homage to Kathleen and Albert’s profound influence on O’Neal as a dance artist. Inspired by a nightvision video filmed at 4 am in 2007 at Bates Dance Festival of Amy and Kathleen improvising with hoola hoops, this piece celebrates play and the relationships of artists over time. Amy first studied with Kathleen in 1998 and Kathleen passed on from this realm in November of 2020. We love you forever KK. “Fret Not, Carry the Torch.”
