Jānis Krauklis was the first DJ in all of the former USSR region to play vinyls and has influenced the development of dance music in Latvia since the end of the 1980s. He has been an inspirational figure—both professionally and musically—for many first-wave DJs in post-Soviet countries. He features in the documentary Era of Dance by Victor Buda, a film dedicated to the emergence of later legendary figures in the techno scene and their full dedication to music amid political changes in Germany and all of Europe at the end of the 1980s.
Jānis Krauklis has not performed regularly for several years, so his rare performances are special events. The POSTWEST festival closing party by Jānis Krauklis is a symbolic homage to history, since techno, electronic music, hip-hop, rave and DJ culture are all synonymous with freedom, especially in former Soviet countries.
