Screendance made in the quarantine’s period.
Inner Ballad is a reflection on video language, on new creation’s methods , on the freedom of the dancer to express himself, on the experimentation of performance as a necessary tool to bring out a truth. The goal was to make individual identities speak and put them at the center of creation. The work was born from a personal dialogue with the individual dancers of NBDT during the quarantine period, exploiting the methodologies of Performance Art and from this dialogue we worked on the research for the movement able to express itself, a movement that for a moment forgets the technique to reach unexplored places. The subsequent choreographic work rationalizes and confirms the expressive freedom of the first part of the video creating awareness of that movement capable of sinking.
How to express and amplify through the virtual? How can a body that already seems distant on stage touch and be touched through a screen? As in every language, there are characteristics of the medium. We exploit the potential of editing, the shots that move along with the dance. The camera reflects and identifies with the gaze of a single spectator, something much more intimate than a scene on a stage, a voyeuristic vision of bodies that strip off all sorts of filters to bring the distances closer together.
